mdadm --fail /dev/md0 /dev/sdb1

Mark a RAID disk as failed

Flags /dev/sdb1 as failed in array md0, simulating a hardware failure and letting the array switch to the remaining disks or a spare. Use this to test redundancy or before physically removing a dying disk. The array keeps running in degraded mode until the rebuild completes.
