avahi-resolve-host-name myprinter.local

Resolve a .local mDNS hostname to an IP

Machines on a zero-configuration network announce themselves under names ending in .local, and this command looks up the IP for one of them through the Avahi daemon. It is the mDNS equivalent of dig for ordinary DNS. Use the resolved address with ping, ssh, or a browser when the name itself is not enough.
